Laboratory Manager
We are looking for a Laboratory Manager to oversee and coordinate the day-to-day operations of our R&D laboratories developing micro-tubular solid oxide fuel cells. You will ensure that the lab is safe, well-organized, and fully equipped to support our scientists, engineers, and technicians.
This is a leadership role where you will be responsible for managing lab infrastructure, supervising technical staff, and building the processes that keep our research and prototyping running smoothly.
Your tasks
- Help to carry out experiments in materials synthesis, deposition, surface treatments for SOFC components
- Oversee daily lab operations, ensuring equipment and facilities are safe, functional, and available
- Manage lab safety protocols, safety training for staff, risk assessments, and compliance with relevant standards
- Supervise and support laboratory technicians and interns, providing training and guidance
- Maintain inventories of equipment, consumables, and chemicals; coordinate ordering and supplier interactions
- Schedule equipment use, maintenance, and calibrations to minimize downtime
- Develop and implement laboratory procedures, documentation systems, and best practices
- Act as point of contact for lab-related issues with internal teams, external partners, and facility providers
- Contribute to project planning by ensuring lab readiness for upcoming experiments and prototypes
Your qualification
- MSc or BSc degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering or related field (PhD is a plus)
- A minimum of 3 years of experience managing and operating a laboratory
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, materials, and analytical methods such as SEM, XRD, and TGA/DSC is an advantage
- Proven ability to drive projects to on-time execution, build effective teams, and foster global collaboration.
- A hands-on approach with a willingness to work directly with technicians in the lab
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a laboratory environment
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and good laboratory practices
- Full professional proficiency in both written and spoken English and Estonian
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior colleagues is highly desirable
