Mechanical engineer
About GaltTec
GaltTec is pioneering lightweight, high-efficiency Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) to extend the endurance of drones, IoT devices, and other off-grid systems. We are the first Estonian startup accepted into the NATO DIANA accelerator and recently secured €1M to scale our R&D and engineering. Join us to help build reliable, sustainable power where it is needed most.
The Role
We’re looking for a versatile, hands-on Mechanical Engineer who enjoys working across the full product lifecycle: concept, design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing support. You won’t be confined to a single niche. You’ll collaborate with materials, electrical, and test engineers to solve practical problems in thermal management, mechanical integrity, and system integration for high-temperature SOFC systems.
What You’ll Do
- Design & Build: Create robust parts, sub-assemblies, and fixtures for SOFC stacks and test rigs using CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Support Analysis: Contribute to structural and thermal analyses (FEA/CFD) to inform design decisions and improve durability
Validate: Help plan and run tests (e.g., vibration, thermal, and functional), then analyze results to drive design improvements - Prototype: Develop jigs, tools, and assembly methods for rapid iteration; support lab bring-up and troubleshooting
- Document: Produce clear drawings, specs, and BOMs; capture learnings and best practices for repeatability
- Collaborate: Work closely with electrical engineers, materials scientists, and project managers to meet performance and schedule targets
- Source: Engage with suppliers to select components and support fast prototyping and builds
Adapt: Pitch in where needed across R&D and early manufacturing, this is a startup, and variety is the norm
What You Bring
- Education: BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field
- Experience: Practical experience from industry or academic projects in mechanical design, prototyping, or testing
- Tools: Familiarity with 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD). Exposure to FEA/CFD is a strong plus (not mandatory)
- Making Things: Comfort with lab tools, fixtures, and hands-on assembly.
- Fundamentals: Understanding of materials and manufacturing processes; GD&T familiarity is a plus
- Ways of Working: Clear communicator, organized, and collaborative. Able to take ownership and move tasks forward
- Language: Proficient in spoken and written English
Don’t meet every requirement? If you’re a strong generalist who loves to build, test, and learn fast, we’d still like to hear from you.
Why Join GaltTec
- Impactful Work: See your designs move from CAD to hardware to real-world tests, fast
- Cutting-Edge Tech: Contribute to next-gen SOFC systems with civil and defense applications
- Growth: Take on increasing responsibility as we scale; we support professional development
- Culture: Collaborative, practical, and experiment-driven. Team events, milestone celebrations, and wellness benefits
- Package: Competitive salary and benefits
