We are seeking a Senior Mechatronics Engineer to lead the design and integration of automation, control systems, and electronics for our micro-tubular SOFC prototyping and testing platforms. You will take ownership of developing reliable test rigs, custom machines, and control architectures that enable repeatable and scalable R&D.

As a senior member of the team, you will mentor colleagues, define best practices, and ensure that mechatronics and electronics support the fast, safe, and accurate development of our technology

Your Tasks

  • Lead the design and integration of mechatronic systems for SOFC rigs and automated prototyping equipment.
  • Define and implement control systems for heaters, gas flows, sensors, and safety interlocks.
  • Oversee instrumentation and data acquisition for electrochemical and thermal testing.
  • Guide the development of automation for sample preparation, handling, and screening processes.
  • Document system architectures, wiring diagrams, and control logic for reproducibility.
  • Collaborate with materials, mechanical, and electrochemistry teams to align hardware and software integration.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers, technicians, and interns.
  • Take ownership of electronics and automation, ensuring timely reporting and delivery.
  • Contribute to long-term strategy, design standards, and intellectual property recognition.

Your Qualifications

  • Vocational School, BSc or MSc in Mechatronics, Electronics, Automation, Control Systems, or related field (PhD is a plus) or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in automation, electronics, or mechatronic system integration (preferably in prototyping or applied R&D)
  • Strong knowledge of sensors, actuators, and motion control systems (stepper/servo motors, PLCs, microcontrollers)
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and control software (LabVIEW, Python, PLC environments, or similar)
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software and simulation tools is a strong plus
  • Hands-on prototyping and troubleshooting of complex rigs and systems
  • Proven track record of leading projects and mentoring junior engineers
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
